January Omnium-Gatherum

 January.

My least favorite month.  I work outside and drive, and drive and drive for a living.

January mornings start around 5 am bundled up on the way to my office car.

It is, if nothing else, VERY peaceful.

Soon enough though, all the noise of the road will start.  And my view for 50% of my days will look much like this bitter cold day on my way down to Luray.

Road to Luray

January is always my toughest month physically.  Not just from the cold but I double up on my day’s work and  try to avoid Really bad weather days.  If it’s nice out, I’m working until I’m done for the month.  Like now, which is great.  It’s just hard pushing all that driving into so few days.

I take pictures along the way to break up the monotony and in January, the scenery is definitely sparse and dreary.

At least a few plants still have some color through the winter!

The Earth’s annual resurrection can be really tough on me some years and this one was bleak and lonely.  But hey………..

I took this Cherry Blossom pic at the end of February 2 years ago….so spring is just around the corner.

Afterthoughts

Thanks so much for all the ‘repinning’ for the contest.  It ends on Wednesday at midnight and I’ll post the 3 winners Friday morning.  Be safe out there 🙂

Beautiful photos, Angela! This is the hardest month for me, too – it seems to go on forever. And I’m always cold. But – – it’s hard not to be drawn to those bleak landscapes, isn’t it? Something appealing about the soft yet steely colors.

Thanks Annie, I am drawn to stark contrasts in all seasons but I guess when I’m FREEZING! they seem to make more of an impact on me than in, say, July. I’m kind of tall and I can never seem to keep my lower back warm no matter what I wear?
Thanks for your comments always and I hope things there are becoming more settled for you with your home. Take good care and bundle up. I can’t imagine a more ‘chilling’ scene than an open field in January in Oklahoma, BBRRR 😉

Thanks Judy, I’m sure I’d miss the cold if it didn’t come around each year and we actually have not had much snow (yet) but it helps appreciate the spring colors if I complain about the winter dulldrums, Hehee. Thanks for stopping by, hope you are all nice and warm!
