A couple of decades ago, people would have to sift through actual hardback books to find out facts about food that are safe for vegans to eat. Thanks to the dawn of smartphones, however, searching for information about what’s acceptable for vegans to consume has never been easier.
Smartphones are getting handier every day, with thousands of apps providing not only entertainment but also programs that can aid a certain lifestyle or diet. It’s not at all surprising, really, as mobile is now the device of choice by the majority of internet users, (as asserted by the company that manages the gaming site Pocket Fruity) that Vegan foods have come to the ease of our palms.
If you’ve always wanted to have a tool that can quickly and accurately assess the food labels that you scan at the grocery stores, here’s an app that you may want to try.
Sometimes, reading and understanding labels can be difficult, particularly for those of us with less than perfect eyesight. After all, not everyone is a scientist who understands what xylitol, benzoate acid, or potassium benzoates are. With Is it Vegan? you’re be able to determine what these chemicals are made from and if they’re safe for vegans to consume.
Using the app is extremely simple. All you have to do is hover the camera of your smartphone on a food product’s UPC code. Without even pressing the camera click button, the app will analyze the ingredients and tell if the food is vegan friendly or not. A detailed analysis of ingredients will be presented to the user with every scan.
One of the best things about Is it Vegan? is that it works even if you’re not in a supermarket. All you have to do is key in a food product and the app will tell you if it’s vegan or not. The only drawback of Is it Vegan? is that data on food products outside the U.S. are very limited.
Is it Vegan? is free for both Apple and Google phone users.
Let me know what you think. I love it but it may not work for all out there. Hope so. Check it out.
