Healthier Iced “Coffee” Beverage – Dairy, Caffeine and Sugar Free

Reposting a popular drink recipe from last year.  Still one of my all time favorite things to gulp sip on anytime of day….

This is my daily, sometimes bi-daily …..tri-daily? ….drink this summer.

It’s so refreshing, mildly sweet, and easy to make.

The ingredients can be adjusted to your own liking.

Substitutions in Nut Milks and coffee can be made.

I like it just as it is though……………no sugar, no dairy, no fuss!

I drink the same thing when it’s cold too………just warm it all up instead of adding Ice.

The proportions I’ve worked out are:

Cafix is available at iHerb and most health food stores.

For the syrup:

Boil 2 cups of water.

Dissolve 2/3 cups of Cafix Coffee Substitute (or instant Coffee)  into the hot water.

Add in a few Tbs. of Cocoa Powder for a MOCHA flavor.

Add in sweetener of choice.

(I add about 1 tsp. of Liquid Vanilla Stevia in mine)

Store your syrup in a sealed container in the fridge.  Or pour syrup into ice-cube trays.

For the Drink:

Fill glass half way full with ice.

Pour in non dairy milk of choice to almost the top of the glass.

Add in enough syrup, maybe 2-3 Tbs.,  to fill glass and stir.

Or if you’ve frozen your syrup in ice trays, add in a few frozen cubes to flavor.

One 16 oz. glass of Homemade Iced Mocha will run you about .50, compared to $4.00+ at Starbucks!

Cafix Coffee Substitute is made from roasted Barley and Molasses.  It has a rich taste, similar to coffee but without the caffeine.

You can find Cafix at most health food stores these days or purchase it for around $5.00 per jar from iHerb.

Receive a $5 discount on your first purchase from iHerb using this code:  ZOC252

So refreshing and healthy.  Why drink soda when you can have a drink that’s full of nutrition?

And just as thirst quenching…………

Enjoy!

WE are SO on the same page! I make a iced coffee substitute drink out of Ecco, an Australian Brand of Coffee replacer! I keep wanting to blog about it, but keep thinking no one else is interested. Think again! xx

I love this flavor. Did you have Postem, “Mormon Tea” growing up?
It got discontinued and Cafix is the closest I’ve found to it but I’m sure that Ecco is similar.
BTW, got my awesome bottle of Sunwarrier – Rush and I was planning on using it in a juice fast in the coming week cause I’m almost done with work for the month. Really looking forward to your post to see your details 🙂 Thanks again for the giveaway Somer XX

I used to drink Ecco all the time! You just reminded me of it Somer (what a BAD Aussie I am! 😉 ) and now that I only drink 1 cup of tea a day (cheers Somer 😉 ) and with Tasmania threatening to be the beginning of the next iceage daily (seriously SNOW ON MT WELLINGTON IN APRIL?!) I am going to need some warming beverages on a regular basis each day (forget 3…talk 12! 😉 ). Cheers Angela and Somer for reminding me that tea isn’t the only beverage that wards off the chills 🙂

Time to write “Ecco” down on the shopping list again… It’s always lovely to revisit an old friend and “catch up” 😉 This recipe made me instantly want to drink it. I headed off as soon as I finished reading and put some almonds on to soak to make the milk ready for it 🙂 LOVE IT 🙂
