Enlightened Nutrition -My Meal Replacement Week with “Illumin8” from Sunwarrior

I’m sooooo excited to share this past week’s diet log with you all today.  With a lot of help from Sunwarrior’s new meal replacement line, Illumin8, I’ve met and surpassed my weight loss goal and two weeks early to boot!  Today I’m sharing how this line of protein powders can help build your health while still trimming your waist.  Of course, it can also be just a healthy addition to a busy day.  I made so many different drinks and snacks with this stuff in the last week!  Some of these will be staples in my diet from now on.  I tested the Mocha and Vanilla Bean flavors for one week and documented my daily calories and final weight loss.  It was just one week but since I was just 1.5 away from my weight goal I’d set back in April, 2015, my Sunwarrior challenge was perfect timing for me to knock out those last couple pounds by May 1st.  Here’s how things went for me this week: On Friday, I had a short work day but still started out before 5 AM so I kept my first Sunwarrior meal replacement meal as simple as 1 scoop of Mocha Illumin8…

Adding Powdered Greens to your diet, deliciously + a Giveaway!

Adding Powdered Greens to your diet, deliciously + a Giveaway!

I want to share some thoughts today on Vegan “Dieting” and healthy weight loss.   I’m absolutely NOT a ‘green smoothie’ gal – can’t stand the taste so I stopped trying to like them years ago.  But green powders, full of tons of nutrients like ‘Organic Spirulina’ Chlorella, Wheat Grass, Barley’ – that I can do everyday to add healthy, non-fat greens to my diet.  I’ve been hiding Oriya Organics green powders in my foods for over a year now and can really attest to the increased energy they can give an already healthy, plant based diet. The wonderful folks at Oriya want to share some goodies with one lucky reader now this week.  Don’t forget to enter to win a full size of their ‘Supergreen Medley’ a full size ‘Superfood Protein Medley‘ and a cool mixing cup – all up for grabs at the end of the post here. When I stopped eating dairy products 5 years ago, I basically lived on meat and veggies for two years.  That brought me a…

Spicy Grilled Pineapple Tahini Slaw, Smoothies, Toast, Tacos & More – Oriya Organics Raw Green Protein Powders Giveaway & Review

Boy, I kinda went a little crazy this month when the folks at Oriya Organics asked me to work up a recipe using their products.  Crazy good though.  Their ingredients are just superbly nutritious. The first time I tried their Super Green Medley, which contains live enzymes, phytonutrients, antioxidants, wheatgrass, barley grass, chlorella, and sprulina,  I sliced lemon, fresh pineapple, cucumber and a tsp. of Super Green Medley powder into a jar of filtered water and let it chill in the fridge over night.  What a wonderful way to start my morning drinking this delicious powerhouse of nutrition the next day.  I’ve been enjoying the same drink, different fruits each morning now and I can feel the energy boost it’s been giving me already. The SuperFood Protein Medley has no processed sweeteners of any kind. It contains a full serving of spirulina and chlorella. On top of a protein, it is a multi-functional cleanser and detoxifier. You can be very creative with recipes including using the protein powder as a flour substitute as opposed to only in smoothies. The SuperGreen Medley is a blend of the most nutrient dense greens on the planet. There are no fillers,…

Sunwarrior SuperGreens Cocoa Hazelnut Bars

Sunwarrior SuperGreens Cocoa Hazelnut Bars

The past few weeks I’ve been re-discovering all the deliciously healthy products available from Sunwarrior.  I won some of their products a few years ago on a blog and remembered being so impressed with their ingredients, integrity and flavors.  Now I’ve rediscovered the deliciousness and purity of their products.   I received a sample of some of their current products to try out last month and have been crazy about each one.  I even ordered a bit more after running out of them last week.  They really add a power punch of flavor and nutrition to my smoothies.    The Sunwarrior Activated Barley adds such a great creaminess to fruity blended drinks, I love it.  This one pictured has orange juice, hemp seed, blueberry and oat milk.  A dash of stevia for sweetness makes this drink taste similar to a creamsicle smoothie.  I love how the Barley adds to the blend, and the nutrition of course.  Without the powder it would be more of an icy texture that really doesn’t appeal to me.  Much creamier with the barley blend. For a mid day snack, Sunwarrior has a number of Immunity products that sneak into your regular drinks without a…

Fresh Fruit Fast is on!

Fresh Fruit Fast is on!

So, we’re off to Alaska in August and I have just a few winter comfort meals left on my hips right now.  I’ve started a fresh fruit and vegetable fast of sorts in the past weeks to get myself into tip top shape for our trip at the end of the summer.  This winter’s sub-zero temperatures were anything but comfortable working outside.  And now I’m paying the price of warming my belly with hot baked goods to keep out the cold.   I’ve already dropped 20 but I’d love to fit into some summer favorites for the trip.  Another 15 to go I’m afraid.   My ‘Raw Foods’ mentors:  Gena, Julie and Kristina have all got me convinced that fresh foods are the way to go for maximum nutrition while dropping this extra weight.  I’ve always known the fresh, local produce tastes the best.  But for now, it’s helping to trim down the fat as well as giving me full flavored meals.   I try not to eat much after 2pm.  A salad or bowl of soup is enough to fill me up before bed.  And all the fiber from fresh fruits and veggies is actually making me feel more…

A. B. C. Smoothie Antioxidant Blast in a glass + my “virtual” friend Annie

Vitamin A + Beta Carotene + Vitamin C = My A. B. C. Smoothie “Antioxidant Blast in a glass” I first saw this drink on Pinterest so I’m not pretending to be so clever as to have created this magnificent tribute to antioxidants and vitamins, but here it is for you now: 2 Carrots (roasted or steamed) + 1 medium size Sweet Potato (cooked) + 1/3 of a fresh Pineapple + 1 inch of fresh Ginger Chill + Blend + Drink = Power Surge! This kind of easy, fantastically healthy and delicious recipe is a great example of small changes I’ve made to my diet in the past 4 years.  Before eliminating  all dairy, and then all animal products in my diet, it was really just ‘what can I eat so I can continue to go’ and ‘how can I stay as thin as possible’  Today things have changed dramatically for me and my diet.  Living a Vegan Plant based lifestyle is such a great confidence builder for me.  I think more kindly about the world and I treat my body more kindly.  I don’t crave Bacon.  I don’t crave fat filled creamy shakes.  I do crave the energy boost and…

Baby Kale Creamy Coconut Detox Smoothie

Baby Kale Creamy Coconut Detox Smoothie

One year ago I gobbled up a  bowl of this:    Kale and White Bean Soup My Kale saga continues this October in a much more chilled state.  This baby Kale mixes with creamy coconut and berries and blends into my favorite smoothie of the season.  Its detoxifying properties are perfect to gin up the body’s healthy state prior to those Holiday meals just around the corner.  Plus, it tastes great.  I hadn’t used any ‘baby’ Kale until now…tons of baby Spinach but not Kale. Who would have ever thought that these beautiful delicate little leaves were related to the stuff thrown onto so many restaurant plates as an awful garnish?  It really seems like a different animal.  I’ve been nibbling on the fresh baby leaves since I got it home this week. It mixes its sweetness in with the creamy coconut to make a rich, thick & satisfying drink, loaded with good stuff! Baby Kale Coconut Cream Detox Smoothie 1 cup Baby Kale, 1 cup unsweetened Coconut shreds, 1 cup mixed berries (frozen), 1 cup sliced banana (frozen, about 2 medium),         2 Tbs. Fresh Ginger diced. Soak the Coconut in 2 cups of water overnight…

Frozen Fruit Smoothie Breakfast Bar

Featured on: Brit + Co. The Best Uses for Frozen Berries You’ll Ever Find: 27 Brilliant Berry Recipes  For years I’ve been blending away all the delicious healthy ingredients for green smoothies, usually at lunch time since I leave for work before 5 am and no one wants to listen to ice crushing…including me at that time of day.  I’d love to have a delicious icy drink for my morning meal but it doesn’t work out for me time wise.  I also freeze left over smoothie in ball jars but it takes forever for them to thaw.  Sometimes they don’t soften up for hours when I take them for work and that doesn’t work either ;( So I’ve invented a freeze, grab and go version of a smoothie:  These little squares have all the good things in a green smoothie…and a little more.  Fruit, Nut Milk,  Flax, a little Vanilla Protein Mix… And are perfectly portable! Mix up a batch of these with your favorite smoothie flavor(s), pour it out in a lined pan, freeze and then cut into take-with squares.      Hope you will enjoy this smoothie in a bar with your own favorite flavors.  Be sure and…
